I have not read a book im OBSESSED with in… ages!! Call me crazy but i blame tiktok. I get most of my recommendations from there and usually end up disappointed. But not that goodreads feels like booktok 2.0, i fear i have nowhere else to turn.

For reference, i dont have a favorite genre. I know I am all over the place. I love what the wind knows by amy harmon, the bronze horseman, reading hunger games as a 6th grader changed my life, heaven by meiko kawakami, my dark vanessa, game of thrones, etc. I have read book I like, but not love. Nowhere near love. I NEED A 5⭐️ READ PEOPLE.

If anyone is up for the task, please recommend me a book that will draw me in and keep me there, well written, and preferably not something trending on booktok (and yes ive tried colleen hoover and the others that are all on tiktok, its a no for me).

I have read 38 books this year, no 5 star reads. Read 27 last year, and only one 5 star read. Im desperate!

Thank you if you made it this far and if you recommend me anything!! I appreciate you

    1. My last two 5 star reads were My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, and Rant by Chuck Palahnuik. Both very dislikable protagonists, but great reads.

Apologies if any of these are “booktok,” it’s not a space I’m in. It seems you like fantasy, but I’m going to give a variety of recommendations so there’s a better chance you find a five star book!

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes – Hunger Games prequel and a fantastic look at the mind of a villain who doesn’t see themselves as one

Lessons in Chemistry – just read this. 6/5 stars for me! Really well written, beautiful and funny at the same time, really hard to describe bc it’s not just one thing. (I saw that this has been popularized on social media as a romance novel- it isn’t)

S – if you want a book to make you really think and wonder. It’s a story told via notes written in the margins of a book.

The Princess Bride – if you want funny and fantasy, this is it! As delightful as the movie, but with a lot more going on and the joke that it is an “abridged” version

Oryx and Crake – the story of a man’s life told in two timelines. One before the apocalypse and one after. One of those books where you are dying to know what happens next

Fourth Wing – haven’t read it myself yet, but a few friends have and say it actually lives up to the hype.

Nevernight – not sure your age, but this is a great new adult book! Adventure, lots of murder, hint of spice.
