AAHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
THIS BOOK WAS REMARKABLE, SPLENDID, every word of praise I can possibly think of. Perhaps my new favourite book for so many reasons.
I normally don’t write reviews of books I’ve enjoyed or hated even cause I can never encompass those same feelings into pen..or text.
But I’ll try because this is a book that I hope everyone reads. I know everyone can and ( SHOULD) have their own opinions but this is above devoid of criticism.
\- When I first picked up the book my initial thought was ” Oh a book about slavery”. A sad story but nothing that would sit it apart.
\- And of course I was very, very wrong.
\- I remember finishing the first few chapters and just assuming that it was different charcaters/ or pov’s but I ‘ll meet them all again soon. Oh how I was Wrong. Again..
\- So I skimmed through the book to see if I’d meet all the characters I loved so dearly each through a mere 15 pages. I was heartbroken to see that wasn’t the case, confsued as well.
\- The ending was one of the best and worst things. Worst cause I did not want this book to end, it felt like being told stories from my grandmother when I was young and I just didn’t want to stop hearing them, it felt warm despite some of the terrible things character’s suffered from. Their resilience, and seeing some of their offsprings live much greater lives then they did, but reminding myself that’s their greates dream. After letting the book go and acknowledging that their were only 3 more pages I stumbled on one last gift from Yaa Gyasi.
\- Marjorie and Marcus.
Two distinct streams, that converged into a beautiful ocean.
I AM MOST DEFINITELY RE READING,( several times) AND BUYING.

I thought this was superb. I don’t know that I’ll read it again – it’s a challenging read, parts of it hurt – but I’m so glad I read it at least once.
This book is incredible. I wish I could read it for the first time. Again.
It was so good! And lovely, and sad, and beautiful. It was so much more than I was prepared for.
I read it and thought I missed a lot so I listened to the audible version. It was very good and I definitely got more out of the book that way.
