alright so idk if anyone else has noticed this but i feel like most of the books nowadays, especially the YA and romance ones, are just straight-up smut and over the top sex scenes without a decent plot or characters… like the amount of times i’ve had to give up on a book because it was all smut is so sad. and don’t get me wrong, i think that sex scenes are okay in a book if they have some sort of significance or contribution to the plot/development of the characters. i also feel like everyone on “booktok” – aka the reading side of tiktok – is obsessed with smut and that it’s considered a trendy thing now. hopefully other ppl have noticed this as well 🙏

I haven’t noticed that at all, and I’ve been reading widely in newly published horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and “literary fiction” this year. Most of the books *you’re reading*/you’re recommended on Tiktok ≠ most books.
