I’m 30 years old and have never been a big reader. There was a time in college where I got into audio books, but that’s basically the extent of it….. I want to get into reading but would love recommendations! In every day life, I love shows and podcasts about the following:

    – True Crime & Unsolved Mysteries (up and vanished type podcasts)
    – Scary Stories & Ghosts (haunting of hill house, american horror story, conjuring)
    – All Things Cryptid & Unexplained (moth man, skin walker ranch, appalachia)
    – Bad Reality TV (the bachelor, selling sunset, mindless tv) lol not sure how this would translate into books

I would probably be interested in love stories and fantasy as well, I loved all the mainstream franchises growing up (hunger games, twilight, harry potter, etc.)

Would love any recommendations of books you LOVED and couldn’t put down in these categories. Thanks so much!

    1. I honestly fell into the reviews of anything written by Sarah J Maas. I originally figured it was super overhyped and was nervous about reading. And while it feels as a slow start, it was awesome. I really suggest it if you were intrigued by Twilight and the Harry Potter franchise. Atleast, it feels like the same audience.

The series “A court of Thorns and Roses” was leaning more into that romance and 18+ stuff. The first book particularly gave “tri-wizard tournament” (Harry Potter, Goblet of fire) and “Beauty and the Beast retelling” vibes. It made it all worth the world building.

In “Throne of Glass” however, it’s much more of that action packed stuff.

I know the reviews feel all over the place and there’s a lot to read through. But it has taken me on an adventure I haven’t gotten from any other author. Genuinely, when you get the ball rolling, it’s difficult to put the book down. These books pull all those feelings out of you. I loved the writing and there’s plenty of people online to discuss these series with.

Also, side note. If you’re into that bad mindless TV romance stuff, also for older adult. I’d suggest anything Ana Huang. That’s looking at the “Twisted” and “King of sin” series. I wouldn’t suggest this for…genuine literature, unpopular opinion. It got me out of a reading slump and into reading. It’s easy to consume and each book is a standalone but are all interconnected. I’d suggest it if you’re dipping your toes into the romance genre. Perfect Author for the ones who consume stuff like “Love Island” and “The Bachelor”.

      Happy Reading! :))
