easy. the bell jar by sylvia plath. i can’t exactly explain why i like it so deeply. i just knew once i had read it, and every time i’ve reread it afterwards. It is set in the 50’s and it follows a young woman named Esther, who starts to feel inadequate while she’s in New York, and descends into an unstable mental state. There are themes of mental health and illness, familial relationships, friendships, societal expectations, sex and purity and experience, motherhood, and so so much more. it’s fast paced, and just so brilliant. The language is phenomenal and the metaphors blew my mind. I will be getting some tattoos relating to this book soon enough. Definitely and by far my absolute favourite read of all time. Incredibly captivating.
Other reads which just stand out to me are the picture of dorian gray, rebecca, the woman destroyed, 1984, kafka on the shore, the night circus, crime and punishment, the way i used to be, and sweet bean paste.

*War of the Worlds* has been my favourite since I read it at 9 or 10.
Others that have become firm favourites which spring to mind include: *1984*, *The Lord of the Rings* (I can’t pick just one), *The Stormlight Archives* (again, I can’t suggest just one from the series), *Howl’s Moving Castle*, *The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy*, *Great Expectations* and *Childhood’s End*.
There’s nothing especially obscure there, but they’re popular stories for a reason!

The Stand by Stephen King is the book that really got me into reading as a teen, and will always hold a special place in my heart.
