Hello lovely people! I’m looking for a light, fluffy book, either a graphic novel or a quick YA book, to read with some friends.

I’m getting married soon and all my bridesmaids and I are all big bookworms. They’re coming into town for dress shopping next month and I thought a fun bonding experience would be to have a little bookclub!

Since it’s only a month out and we’re all kinda busy, I want something light and quick, I’m thinking either a YA book or a graphic novel. Subject matter, I’m flexible on, but bonus points if it’s something that’ll spur discussion!

In the past, I’ve loved books like *Heartstopper* and *Tea Dragon Society*, but again I’m super flexible on subject, themes, and genres. Darker themes are fine, I’m mostly looking for quicker reads.

    Thanks!!

    1. Maybe *A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking* by T. Kingfisher? It’s sort of a book for all ages, even the publishers didn’t seem to be quite sure who to market it to. It has magic, a cheeky gingerbread man and an angry sourdough. Weird and fun.

      Edit to add:

*Furthermore* by Tahereh Mafi is a very imaginative MG/YA fantasy.

For quirky magic, I think you might enjoy *The Hatmakers* by Tamzin Merchant – but it is part of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger, so maybe not ideal for a one-book club.

If you want something more serious to discuss (and something with queer characters), maybe *Pet* by Akwaeke Emezi. (TW >!child abuse/sexual abuse!<, but it is handled in a very sensitive, child-friendly way.)
