City Spies – A series of spy novels with a team of 12-15 year olds. Fun and fast paced, they go through the normal spy sorts of things, going undercover etc. There is a little action, but they are more heist-like about being clever and planning.
Protector of the Small – A fantasy series about a girl becoming a knight by Tamora Pierce. She is noted for being protective of the weak and standing up to bullies – which gets her into trouble. All of the Tamora Pierce series are fantastic, this is my personal favorite.
The Tripods – sci-fi series about Earth conquered by aliens. All adults are mind controlled, leaving a rebel group that recruits teenagers to strike back against the aliens.

Mine for fantasy is the Sabriel series by Garth Nix, interesting magic concept I’d not seen before. Classic good vs evil and some great writing.
Malorie Blackman. She’s a British author, a Children’s Laureate (a really big deal in the UK). Everyone should read her.
Thanks, I was looking for some new books for my 9 year old.
My top ones are Percy Jackson and the Olympians (plus the sequel series), the Predator Cities series (Mortal Engines quartet), and I’ve recently picked up the Bartimaeus Sequence to re-read.
The Roar by Emma Clayton and its sequel The Whisper
I love the Protector of the Small series. I’ve been reading Tamora Pierce since I was 11 or 12 (35 now). I still try to re-read one of her quartets every year. I can’t really pick a favorite but I particularly enjoy the Circle series.
John Bellairs!! A few of his: The Mummy, the Will, and the Crypt – For years I dreamed of having my own booby trapped mausoleum. The Figure in the Shadows. The Curse of the Blue Figurine. The House with a Clock in its Walls. The Letter, the Witch, and the Ring. and more!
I still love Tamora Pierce. Sadly I lost my books many years ago. Thinking about getting them again, plus the series I didn’t have yet. Can’t really choose a favourite out of Song of the Lioness, The Immortals or Circle of Magic series
