I know this is a long shot since this book is like a bajillion years old, but I just finished Carrie.
Having seen the De Palma film many times and being familiar with Stephen King's other work, I thought I would be prepared for how good (and how achingly sad) this book was.
I was wrong.
It's such an amazing book! Even knowing what was going to happen, I couldn't stop turning the pages, and the prose is one of King's best. The dude managed to pull off a jump scare in a novel with no illustrations!
That being said, I do wonder what it must've been like back then, reading this book without having the prom scene being a pop culture staple or King being a household name, to be utterly shocked and horrified and heartbroken by this book without any preperation.
Did anyone here read Carrie in 1974? What did you think of it?
