I’m looking for some non-fiction, biographies of women – but I’m not interested in biographies of ‘great’ or ‘important’ women? I’d say the focus of I’m looking for is more of a… character study of women who just lived their lives in proximity to extraordinary people and remarkable times.

Recent books I’ve really enjoyed have been:

    • Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune by Bill Dedman
    • Stalin’s Daughter: The Extraordinary and Tumultuous Life of Svetlana Alliluyeva by Rosemary Sullivan
    • Daughters of Chivalry: The Forgotten Children of Edward I by Kelcey Wilson-Lee

These books, were still fantastic insights into certain time periods (the Gilded Age, WWII and the Cold War etc etc), but not an account of women who changed the world, or a view of important world history events through the perspectives of the men in power. I find myself appreciating the stories of these women and their character, but also have really found great insight and comfort in reading about their daily survival in turbulent times.

I’m happy for any time period! And extra points if there’s an audiobook.
