Today I was reflecting on American philosopher Elizabeth Brake's term 'amatonormativity', which she defines as the societal assumption that an exclusive, romantic relationship should be the default goal. I agree this is a persistent trend in our media as well – I want something that breaks the trend.
So, I'm interested in polyamorous romance, but also the depiction of deep platonic relationships as the centre of the story. Another thing that might break the mould on amatonormativity could be an adult romance were the couple decline to live together whilst still being committed, but I appreciate that would be considerably harder to find than the other two.
