I am keen to read from any genre. Though, I prefer fiction, fantasy, allegorical books etc. But my mind is open to anything. Also like war, so maybe a gut-wrenching war story will be in order.

I want to read something that makes me sob, and sob hard…. I want to feel empty after reading it.

The nightingale was beautiful and sad. I cried a lot while reading it. It’s historical fiction set in ww2

    2. I’m thinking of ending things by Iain Reid. It’s not sad, it’s depressing. Sent me to a bad place for a little while. Enjoy, I guess.

    3. Depressed, but also laughing along the way and, somehow, uplifting: Black Pill by Elle Reeve. It’s about the alt right and the forces of darkness conspiring to bring fascism to America. But it does offer an antidote and hope for the future.

Also, it’s not one of those boring political books. It’s an exciting adventure story—and it’s funny!

“First They Killed My Father” is a memoir told from the view of a young girl during the Cambodian Genocide. Very depressing, and also uplifting due to the persistence of the human spirit. But fuck, there are some extremely bleak parts. Books like this trump any sort of Cormac McCarthy type hard fiction. Reality hits harder.

    5. Remarque’s All Quiet… does that for me, it’s WW1 brutality that leaves me heartbroken and empty

Lonesome Dove. You’ll be depressed when it’s over. It’s so good you’ll never want it to end
