    Which books should I teach?

Hello! I teach a class to undergraduate (usually pre-health) students called “Medical Humanities,” which involves using literature, film, and other arts to cultivate empathy for patients and to expand their mindset of what working with people across all demographics look like.

Currently I use the following books:
-Heaven & Hell (JK Stefansson) for theme GRIEF
    -Eula Bliss Pain Scale (short)
    -RENT (film manuscript & music)
    -Dependency (Tove Ditlevsen)
    -Autobiography of a Face
    -Frankenstein
-The masque of red death (Poe / short)
    – The Bell Jar & some poems (eg Tulips) (Sylvia Plath)

Some I’m considering are Easy Beauty (Chloe cooper jones), The Faces (Tove Ditlevsen), or my cousin Rachel (du Maurier).

BUT I’D LOVE SOME NEW BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS!!! Please give title & author (and if you can, a reason and/or the relevant theme)!! Please do NOT recommend anything that is actually a “medical” book, as the idea is for students to find the ‘medical’ narratives and themes on their own.

P.S. My literary area of expertise is Scandinavian Literature (and I speak/read Danish), so those recommendations are very welcome as well. :))

    THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!
