I am looking for mediocre YA books with themes similar to those in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Themes like family/belonging, deception/lies, mortality, magic/abilities/powers, etc.
I'm looking for examples where the plot and character development suffer because the author relied too heavily on the theme or trope (example: a book that is diverse for the sake of being diverse and the protagonist has no substance beyond their "diverse" characteristics.).
Bonus points if it's obvious the author used a formulaic approach to coattail other popular novels.
