So, I need to find a dark YA book that includes themes related to death, deals with ghosts, etc. Bonus if you can find something that includes a world of the dead. It shouldn't be longer than 400 pages, but not shorter than 300. Preferably something at least a little well-known, but not too much. Sorry if it's too specific, but I need something to use as a comp title for my own work. New adult is fine too. It can be urban fantasy, any speculative YA, magical realism, etc. And please: standalones only.

Tithe by Holly Black. Don’t remember it at all, but might actually fit the very specific bill.
edit: damn, it has sequels apparently.
Are you familiar with Darren Shan? I think any of his works would probably fit at least some of your criteria.
