I love love love prose. Beautiful writing is important to me, so I'm not looking for a beach read or smut. Preferably not YA books, although if it's undeniably good, I'm open to it (just not TFiOS, which I've read as a teen already). If it's contemporary/modern, that's a plus. But again, I'm open! I want to feel pain!! I want to be moved! I don't need it to have a happy ending, but I'm looking for a book that will leave me emotionally devastated but still craving more.
Some movies/shows/books I've already seen/read as comps (in addition to the above title):
One Day
Normal People
Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Crying in H Mart
Never Let Me Go

I just finished In Memoriam by Alice Winn. Definitely an emotionally devastating read.
Blue Is the Warmest Colour by Jul Maroh — Adult graphic novel that is absolutely wrenching. The plot is nothing like the movie that was adapted from it. It’s much much bleaker.
