What are some early teen appropriate romcom or horror books?
I want my 13 y/o to start reading books as it may help her to broaden her english vocabulary (our first language isn't English) but I can't find any book that does not contain smut or any other serious issues. Can someone help?
L.M Montgomery’s books might be a great place to start, her style of writing is easy to follow, and characters like Anne or Emily or Marigold are full of personality.
For something spooky, maybe something like “Down a Dark Hall” by Lois Duncan, which is a more YA take on the classic Gothic novel.
“Jane Eyre” might be good too, I loved that book when I was 12.

The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey was a favorite horror series of mine in middle school. It’s basically about a boy who is an assistant to a scientist that studies cryptids/mythical monsters

Most books by Meg Cabot are teen romcoms! I grew up reading them and it was a lot of fun 🙂
