Recently finished Paula Kalanithi’s book which I thought was beautiful. It’s not a spoiler to say the author writes about his experience as a neurosurgeon preparing to die. The book is deeply philosophical regarding finding meaning in life and death.

It may be a bit of a spoiler to share that the author and his wife decide to have a baby after his cancer diagnosis, aware that he is likely to die but now knowing when. For an author so deep in his exploration of philosophy and ethics, I was surprised he did not discuss more about the consequences to his child at being born to someone unlikely to live long. He does discuss his concerns related to how this will impact him and his wife.

Do you think this was a blind spot for the author? Or perhaps too painful to approach? Or a mere artifact of the author passing before his book was complete?
