For me getting into a book takes at least two hours of reading. I’m not the type of person who needs the book to start off super strong for me to get into it but I do like really heavy set up in the start. These are some books I’ve read rated, I would REALLY appreciate some recommendations based off them. (Yes I am an 18 year old boy and it shows in my list)

    Godfather 9/10
    The shining 9/10
    The revenant 8/10
    Mystic river 10/10
    Shutter island 8/10
    Limitless 7/10
    Jurassic park 6/10
    The hobbit 7/10
    Unbroken 8/10

Some movies and shows I like that could help:
Better call Saul/ breaking bad 10/10
    Truman show 10/10
    Goodwill hunting 11/10
    Ferris bullers day off 8/10
    Shawshank book and movie 10/10
Catch me if you can 8.5/10
    Gravity falls 10/10
    The last of us 10/10

More info: for movies I like funny movies most of the time but I prefer more serious and dramatic books. I like when books explore the themes of loosing a loved one, wrong thing for good reason, misogyny, mystery, money, the craving for power and always wanting more, and love for family and friends.

I’m not super into romance but I do like it when a book has a good side plot of that.

Also heavy discussion of suicide is kind of a trigger for me. It’s cool if suicide is talked about a decent amount, I just don’t want main characters and shit killing themselves.

It’s been a little bit since I’ve read what I’m getting ready to suggest; but it seems like you are wanting the slow burn type of reads. The ones that can take a little setup to really get rolling. So, that said, here are some suggestions in no real order.

      * Midnight’s Children by Salmon Rushdie
      * Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan
      * Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
      * For Whom the Bell Tolls by Earnest Hemingway
      * The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
      * The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
      * East of Eden by John Steinbeck
