Good horror books for beginners

With the spooky seasons right around the corner, I have really been craving some good scary books to read. But as it is a genre I'm not that familiar with, I don't know where to start.

What are some good horror books you would recommend for a beginner? I have read books like "house of leaves" and "juniper and thorn", but those didn't feel like true horror books? I want something that makes me terrified to turn the page!
