Hi folks!
Looking for book suggestions! I’m 24 years old and going through a bit of a slump right now. Dropped out of university last November for a variety of reasons, primarily mental health / unmedicated ADHD, and I haven’t felt like I’ve made much progress in getting my shit back together. We’ve just recently moved my grandmother into an assisted living facility, so the house is now just my mom and I.
Not to make this all “bloo bloo woe is me my life is misery”, but I’d say I’m pretty lonely. I don’t spend a lot of time with my mom because she’s so busy. I don’t have many friends, and the couple of friends I do have live out of town, so I only get to see them in person a handful times a year.
I’ve noticed I’m spending way too much time looking at screens, so I’d love some book recommendations for people in their 20s who feel lonely and weird and totally lost.
My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. I prefer fiction to nonfiction, but I’ll give anything a try. I’d love some poetry book recommendations as well.
Books I’ve liked recently:
- Kitchen, Banana Yoshimoto
- Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, Satoshi Yagisawa
- Diary of a Void, Emi Yagi
- Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Toshikazu Kawaguchi
- Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
- The Travelling Cat Chronicles, Hiro Arikawa
- The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett
Thanks in advance for the help!
