Hi, I am looking for some recommendations of books that are tragic but beautiful – the kind that make you really invested in characters and cause you to shed a tear at times! A hopeful ending is nice but not 100% necessary. Bonus points if they have any themes of motherhood in them. Some examples that I have loved are:

Go As A River by Shelley Read

    Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano

The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O’Farrell

You Be Mother by Meg Mason

    The Women by Kristin Hannah

Count the Ways by Joyce Maynard

    1. maybe They both die at the end is a little far from those books, but is a really beautiful tragic story tho

    2. LoquaciousBookworm on

It’s a memoir, but *You Could Make this Place Beautiful*, by Maggie Smith, was soooo good

    3. Oh you also might like Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. It’s a memoir which tells the complex relationship of the author with her mother, and her navigation through grief.
