    Hi!!! My brother is turning 14 and I’m considering a book series box set for his present. He loved Harry Potter, Percy jackson, and especially loved His Dark Materials (golden compass etc). Wondering what series would be best for him next? Hes also a big football fan and is into classical studies in school ie greek gods

    1. Since someone already mentioned the rest of Rick Riordan’s bibliography, a few others that came to mind are:

      *The Raybearer Duology* by Jordan Ifueko

      *The Magisterium Series* by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

      *The Skyward Series* by Brandon Sanderson (considering he liked *His Dark Materials*, he might also enjoy a sci-fi imo – last book comes out this year)

      *The Gone Series* by Michael Grant (same reasoning as above + teenage me was obsessed)

      The Chronicles of Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander

      Although it’s usually categorized as sci-fi rather than fantasy, the Dragonriders of Pern series might also work

      {{Scythe by Neal Shusterman}}

      Thou shalt kill.

      A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

      Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

      All of the books in this series are good.

    4. Lord of the Rings – but start off with the Hobbit maybe. Highly recommend! Will do wonders for his reading comprehension and is overall one of the best fantasy series. It also ties in elements of Norse, Celtic, and English mythology

      Try the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. It’s a little romance-y, but a lot of fantasy. Demons, demon hunters (called Shadowhunters in the books) warlocks, vampires, werewolves…. Really cool series especially if you love fantasy.

    6. *Lockwood & Co.* – it’s about a group of teens investigating paranormal phenomena in an alternate-history London.

      I also second *Raybearer*!
