I'm really captivated by this book for some reason. It was a little slow to start but after 50 pages of so it really began to pick up, which is good because it's nearly 900 pages long. I have seen the film a few times and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm an old movie dork, I love a good classic. It inspired me to read the book. I am pleasantly shocked at how frank the book is with its use of language, especially foul language, I'm just not used to that from a book of its era. It makes the characters feel more alive and not like they're on some mantelpiece. I like how Jones creates memorable characters so quickly. It reminds me of Larry McMurtry, one of my favorite modern writers.
