If I was an aspiring author I wouldn’t look for the best books in every genre, but I would definitely immerse myself in books from the genre/s I’m interested in writing with. I wouldn’t limit myself to the best books either, I’d read a range (including bad ones). I’d simply consume as much as possible so I could be influenced by what has worked/hasn’t and what has been done/where I have original ideas.
What type of writing are you hoping to complete?

Reading the memoirs of your favorite authors is great! It’s really inspiring to see the journey to literary success. There are great ones by Stephen King, Anne Lamott, Amy Tan, Cheryl Strayed, and so many more!
