I enjoy all genres and a variety of topics from micro-history to fantasy to philosophy and everything in between. I see a lot of familiar titles circling the top posts in this sub. What is a random book that has stuck with you but you’ve never recommended (yet!)

    1. I have many I could mention but I’m an audiobook listener. As such, I’m never sure how much a masterful reading performance may impact my feelings about the book. I don’t know how it would be taken in by someone reading the text versus my having it beautifully read to me to add “color” to the otherwise black and white experience.

    2. Typhoon by Qaisra Sharaz. Set in a village in rural Pakistan, it is about the drama and consequences of a cheating husband in a society where polygyny (multiple wives) is acceptable but touching outside of marriage is absolutely not. It sweeps you along in the lives of women of various ages and backgrounds in this tightly knit community.

I picked it up at random from a charity shop. I enjoyed it overall but it is difficult to find the right person to recommend it to. The narration was very effective and atmospheric for me, but other people might find it repetitive or melodramatic and very annoying.
