Feel like mysteries/thrillers tend to be standalone books more often then not.
A Good Girls Guide to Murder is a trilogy + a novella and was a fun time. It’s YA, but enjoyable regardless of age. Similar to that is the One of us is Lying series, also YA.

The antagonists are creepy. Like silence of the Lambs creepy.
