This collection of essays isn’t your typical comedian money-grab of cobbled together long form jokes edited into quasi biographical stories. It’s a thoughtful, and meaningful series of writings that are often funny, incredibly well written, and sometimes very thought provoking. He touches on death, growing up poor in a social experiment in Scotland, fate, relationships, and parenthood. I especially think new fathers would truly appreciate his thoughts on his children.
Ihaven’t read too many autobiographies. Mostly because the ones I have read seemed a bit self-fellating, and often times felt incredibly exaggerated (not to pile on Dave Grohl right now, but “Storyteller” was a major offender, to me). And, I wouldn’t consider this book to be autobiographical, but it is a loose collection of stories from his life. But, in my limited “celebrity readings” I rank this as my favorite.
Bonus: If you get the audiobook, Craig narrates, and you can hear his Scottish broque truly emphasize the way he wanted it to be read.
