Extra points if it’s about Victorian England, my favorite time period. I love spooky and morbid stuff. Just finished The Butchering Art about the origins of surgery and anesthesia, told through the life of Joseph Lister, a famous surgeon in Victorian England. It is non-fiction but written in a gripping way that almost felt like a fiction book. I absolutely loved it!!

Would love a creepy, historical book about disease or gross medical things, ideally in a similar time period. Can be fiction or non-fiction but I’d like the morbid parts to be somewhat accurate.

I’ve read Year of Wonders and loved that too, as well as Fever 1793 about 15 years ago, when I was in high school.

Of note, I’m a nurse in grad school for anesthesia so I do appreciate historical accuracy.
