My favorite books tend to be those that take place over multiple timelines with multiple perspectives or those that unfold layers of a mystery. But the books I’ve found recently have been hit or miss.

For example, I started The Dark Between the Trees by Fiona Barnett which based off the back cover summary, it had a great premise with two timelines and a mystery/supernatural element. It sounded promising but nothing ever happened. It just was people walking through the woods while talking and arguing. Major disappointment.

But some of my favorites I’ve read recently are Horse by Geraldine Brooks and The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. Both jumped between two or three timelines with twists and mysteries. I finished both and felt like I needed more! I just started Secrets of Rose Briar Hall by Kelsey James and even though it doesn’t have multiple timelines, there’s a mystery being unraveled and I am hooked!

Does anyone have recommendations that have similar elements? Or even a book that left you wanting more and gave more either with multiple books or with a movie/tv show? Thanks!

    1. Jean Hanff Korelitz’ **The Plot** is mystery/suspense. Its plot line is a writer steals the plot of a story from another author. The resultant book becomes a big seller, and the author becomes a target of an unknown who knows of the theft.

The written stolen story is slowly revealed to the reader adding insight into the mystery.

I will say the story moves along slowly in the beginning while Ms. Korelitz painstakingly depicts the steps an author goes through to bring a book to market.
