    Hello,

So I read earlier this year A Month in the Country by JL Carr and enjoyed it and found it quite pleasant. I found it a little ambling but enjoyed it for the afternoon I read it. Following this I have just finished In Memoriam by Alice Winn, which is set in 1914 at the brink of WWI and goes to the end of the war.

Both books really described really romantically a vision of England when the UK was probably at the peak of its power and had a small explosion of global dominance from the Industrial Revolution to poets like Tennyson etc. I’m picturing early Downton Abbey here for more context.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for books that depict/romanticise this thing in England (even really obvious classics I’d happily take recommendations of). Thanks in advance!
