    1. *Lights Out in Wonderland* by DBC Pierre should help. Its literally about a depressed guy wanting to commit suicide, but over the course of the novel finding reasons and will to live.

I turn to books as “comfort blankets”: for me that’s usually children’s books (Chalet school, Gwendoline Courtney) or murder mysteries (Agatha Christie). Yours might be different, but re-read books that are like old friends.

I also like books that are funny and not too mentally taxing eg Georgette Heyer’s Regency novels (I love Friday’s Child), Wodehouse (Jeeves/ Blandings), Just William.

Another favourite of mine is The Blue Castle by L M Montgomery. Valency starts out feeling low and unexcited by life but it turns around by the end.

Books about depression: The Bell Jar is a a classic but you have to be in the mood to read it as it’s not light hearted.

I hope things get better for you .

    3. I have one book I go to when I feel this way. It’s Donna Tartt’s The Secret History. It may be different for you but that book takes me into something different. And we need different. Get the Libby app and start browsing for free. I hope you feel better soon. One day at a time, one moment at a time.
