As the title says. If you’ve spent at least some time looking for fiction/short stories online, either on YouTube, Reddit or any other major platform/website that covers such topics, I believe you’ve noticed just how many channels and posts are out there with horror stories. Regardless If they talk about the paranormal like ghosts or the sinister like serial killers, I think that most fiction content on these platforms is horror.
I suppose that this phenomenon happens because (a), horror stories are generally more popular with younger audiences, which usually end up in those places like r/nosleep or the countless scary story YT channels and (b), scary stories of that short (diary entries or supposed “witness accounts”) are easier to write. Like, I believe it would be much easier for a Reddit user to write a story about being hunted by a werewolf in the woods or being haunted by a cursed doll or something, than some account of a fictional Jupiter landing and the founding of a colony there for example.
Also, another (c) reason, is that there aren’t that many well-known and popular communities that share such stories. Sure, there are dedicated subs here on Reddit, but I’m not sure there is much more than that – which is a bit disappointing honestly.
I’m sure there are many people out there that write and would like to share such stories, but there’s simply no place big or famous enough to do it. I can think of like five or six places where I can go right now and read horror stories, but not a single one where I can go to read science fiction, romance, adventure stories and so on. Again, a rather sad reality imo, which I hope will change at some point.
