Just finished the so-called best thriler of the year and I am beyond disappointed.

No spolier review is that it is, in my opinion somewhat a poorly written attempt at a deep philosophical thriler with an insanely clever and well thought out reveal that will leave the reader speechless but it failed and it failed magnificently.

The writing was honestly laughably bad with forced metsphores and attempts at a philosophy. It somehow felt bith rushed and slow at the same time. That saying, this book is rather short and therefore a quick read but I had to force myself to slog through it.

The characters were badly written at best and ridiculously unbelievable at worst. The main character is a psychiatrist who should have his license revoked immediately! I'm not kidding, he seems so out of place at this job I genuinely expected the author to pull the good ol' Shutter Island and reveal he was a patient in a mental institution and not a doctor. The other main character Alicia barely is a character. She is an isolated plot point with no reactions, conclusions or friends and her only notable function is "painting" which she barely does, "complaining how hot it is" and "fucking her husband". I am serious, this is all this woman did in the entire book. The rest if the characters are even more bland and uninteresting.

Finally, the insanely clever plot twist is laughable, irrational and so convolutedly bad it makes no sense. I almost burnt the damn book while reading it.

    Overall a solid 3/10.
