Can anyone recommend a novel where the story is told through the medium of a trial. I want to explore how past events can be expressed in the trial narrative.
The sort of thing I have in mind is “Anatomy Of A Fall” but in book, not cinematic form. Obvs the cinema can avoid the challenge of writing believable flashbacks because you just cut to it and everything is current tense etc.
Alternatively, films sometimes use a 4th wall breaking narrator to step in and shift gear. I want to avoid that as it doesn’t generally work in book form (although happy to be directed to cases where it does)!
Most courtroom books feature a trail woven through the narrative, but I want the trial to be the narrative with the story woven in.
Does that make sense?
