To be more precise, I want to preface that the books I most often read that put me in the mood for this are the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. I also enjoy Game of Thrones, and of course Lord of the Rings. The plot doesn't need to strictly be a war story. I just enjoy well written or maybe I should say "fun" fighting/war depictions.

For example, I am currently reading The Long Patrol, and while the main narrative ties all of these POV together, each of them has something different going on. What inspired me to make this post was my enjoyment of a chapter where a sergeant is bringing the army to a stop for the night. He has to give them a good shouting for the little mistakes they make cause they're all young and never seen proper action. And while he shouts and orders them around, on the side he is trying to get his leader to ease back so they can march easier, she doesn't give in, and as he is laying down to sleep he pretends to fall for one of their pranks, and upon hearing their giggling promises himself as he sleeps he will do his best to make sure they are prepared for what's to come. I'm pretty baked atm so thats a really short shitty description, but I wanted to convey what kind of things i'm seeking.

And as for the battle scenes, I don't like books that skip over the action. It doesn't have to be gratuitous ( I love stuff like DOOM though so I don't mind gratuitous violence) as the redwall books are able to convey great violence while allowing children to still read it.

I also don't need it to be stuck to only fantasy novels, I enjoy sci-fi as well, and truth be told while I do occasionally read more modern books, or ones based within the real world I am trying to open myself to more books so really any recommendations that fit my criteria are welcome.
