I have only gotten into reading over the past year after never reading much in my life. I find it very hit and miss to find a book I enjoy a lot. Recent reads that I have thought are great are:

    • Weyward by Emilia Hart
    • Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
    • The Rachel Incident by Caroline O'Donoghue

I prefer books centring around female characters, ideally in their 20s/30s. I don't care too much for fantasy or cheesy romance books, but I like romance when done well. I also like books based on friendship or women who are trying to find their way in life.

I want a book or 2 that really draws me in to read on a week long beach holiday.

I am currently reading 1984 by George Orwell which is good but a little intense for holiday. I am also reading 'Really Good Actually' by Monica Heisey but I am struggling to get along with the main character.

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter. Mostly a thriller, also focuses on the relationships between two sisters and their problems.

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. About the struggles of a Chinese American family, mostly focusing on the lives of the women in the family.

      – “The Vacationers” by Emma Straub
      – “Eight Hundred Grapes” by Laura Dave

You seem to like well-written, engaging, women-led books, so I think these two titles will make for good holiday reading!

Oooh, one of my favorite “stumble upon” novels fits this to a T!

[Hothouse Flower and the Nine Plants of Desire](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5978522-hothouse-flower-and-the-nine-plants-of-desire)—I found it in my local Dollar Tree and it is SUCH a fun novel about a young divorcee re-finding her true self, thanks to a philosophical laundromat owner, a mystical NYC marketplace plant vendor, and a trip to the Yucatán—it touches on many, many things most people would like in their lives without being preachy or judgmental, and the story is oddly believable for being so… out there, lol.

I love a plot where you can imagine the characters rolling their eyes and raising eyebrows about what the have to do next, because it feels more grounded regardless of what the next thing IS, and this fits like a glove!
