To Kill A Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn

The N word. Ni****. It’s part of the English language and it’s part of our literary canon. Why are we afraid of it? What in us causes us to recoil from this word but not from words like murder, rape, torture, racism, etc.? Aren’t we taking ourselves a bit too seriously?

I’m not saying we should use the word liberally or as an epithet, but reading it aloud as we read great literature is appropriate.
