So, do you know these stereotypical stories in which there's someone who is the chosen one, but they aren't the MC? Like princess Zelda. Someone with a lot of magic and power inside them, yet somehow weak and unable to fight back. Maybe they're the setting equivalent of jesus, or they have dragon/faerie/divine blood, etc.
Then the bad guy comes along to try to take advantage of them, or steal their power or whatever. The thing is, these evil people who kidnap chosen ones are typically fairly powerful on their own, and their greediness and pride makes them predictable. After all, why would they not grab the defenseless chosen one and use their power for themselves?
So, I was thinking, what if the chosen one was actually a trap? A lure put in place by some kind of otherworldly anglerfish-like being, just waiting for the bad guy to lower their guard, and consume them.
And just to make it more interesting, what if the lure was a sapient person? Who may or may not be aware of being part of a greater being.
Any cool story like that?
