So I’ve been in a southern gothic mood lately and I’ve been having a bit of a struggle finding what are the definitive books for the genre and what are just some general good southern gothic reads, it can be horror, classic, coming of age, pretty much anything i just want a good feel for the genre and to make sure I don’t miss any required reading.
My main exposure to the genre is to kill a mockingbird and I’d love anything that feels similar especially the coming of age element but it’s not required. I’m currently reading the sound and the fury which is scratching the itch well. Also something with a bit of adventure like a trip across a state or states similar to the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? Would be something I’d be interested in. Basically I want a wide net of southern gothic.
