I am hoping someone might suggest chapter books that I can read to my kindergartener.

We have a home library filled with traditional children’s picture books but I do grow dreadfully tired sometimes of reading the same books over and over.

I thought reading a chapter a night would be a fun addition to our bedtime routine. Plus, I didn’t read a ton when I was a young child, so I am sure I missed out on some real gems.

Are there any childrens chapter books that would be appropriate to read to my 5 year old?

    Thanks!

EDIT: We have read Pooh more times than I can count 🙂

    1. Magic treehouse, Nate the great, Charolotte’s web from my retired English teacher wife.

      Good luck!

    2. There’s a few good chapter book series such as Judy B. Jones, Captain Underpants (one of my faves as a kid), Magic Treehouse, Goosebumps, etc. A lot of them are turning into graphic novels nowadays though.

    3. Highly recommend Winnie the Pooh at this age, even though it’s short stories and not a chapter book

I second the recommendation for Beverly Cleary and particularly her Ralph S. Mouse trilogy which begins with **The Mouse and the Motorcycle**

This isn’t a chapter book – it’s a picture book series but worth looking into. Josh Funk’s Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast. I’ve found that kids and adults love this one

      **A Bear Called Paddington**

      **The Beatrix Potter Treasury**

Also seconding anything Winnie the Pooh

The BFG by Roald Dahl was one of my favorite read-aloud books as a kid! I also loved My Father’s Dragon, The Waterhorse (the book, NOT the movie!) and the Sophie books by Dick King-Smith

Tashi. Thea Stilton. Rumble in the Jungle. The folk of the far away tree (Enid Blyton). You can get some of these as a chapter book but with pictures on each page.
