Recommendations for Andy Weir type Sci-fi
I’m a big Andy Weir fan, kind of your average person having to fight through a lot of obstacles to save their home or themselves. He also has what I consider to be a small amount of world building that is just right for me. The less is better, just a little bit that makes it interesting but not overwhelming with politics and such.
Sci Fi that I couldn’t get into: Dune
Sci Fi that aren’t books but I like: BSG (the newer series) ST TNG, Voyager
Other random things I like but it’s ok if a book doesn’t have it: time travel is fun for me but it not a requirement or anything.

The midnight library by Matt Haig
Check out Off to be the Wizard and its sequels. It’s about a hacker who discovers a file that controls reality, gets into trouble with it and flees to the past to pose as a wizard. They’re very fun.
Since you like Star Trek check out Redshirts.
