Or a similar time period, love age of sail vibes.
Brandon Sanderson, Naomi Novik. And Robin Hobb are my favourite writers. Please no suggestions of theirs as I've probably already read it.
I'm coming off of brian Mclellan's powdermage series and loved it, both trilogies. I'm reading the shortstories in print form because i could make sense of their audiobook collections… and need a good audiobook for when I'm driving(hage a long roadtrip coming up)
I'd love something with larger scales battles where tactics matter, and it's not just one big battle at the end of a book or series that focuses hard on the indivuduals. I think Novik and Mclellan both excel at this, often giving us 2 or more POVs of each battle, one with a tactical officer and another centering aorund characters in the guts of a battle. Like, don't ignore the indiviual, but don't only focus on them exclusively.
