The fantasy genre is pretty dominated by female main character which I generally have no issue with but when romance is involved I have trouble connecting with it. So hopefully fantasy, with a male pov and maybe some rimance as a side plot would be perfect. Like something like the structure of I am number 4, Percy Jackson, or the John chapters in ASOIAF

If you don’t mind epic fantasy, then the Riftwar Legacy books by Raymond E Feist. Starting with “Magician”
I don’t see fantasy being dominated by women protagonists. I feel like I actively have to seek out women and people of color in the fantasy genre.
I don’t particularly care for romance, but these have at least a little bit on the side.
– The Name of the Wind
– Assassin’s Apprentice
– The Way of Shadows
– The Lies of Locke Lamora
rick riordan has a couple other spinoff series with male protagonists, set in the same universe as (and sometimes sharing characters with) percy jackson:
– the kane chronicles – egyptian mythology, pov is split between a brother and sister duo
– magnus chase – norse mythology
– trials of apollo (set after the “heroes of olympus” series)
there’s also “zachary ying and the dragon emperor” by xiran jay zhao. i haven’t read it myself, but they’ve marketed it as being similar to percy jackson
