I'm craving some destructive battles. Building collapsing magic, earth shattering destruction? Any standalone or a series with overly powered mages will do.
*Black Sun Rising* by C.S Friedman features humanity colonizing another planet and regressing technologically. That planet has available magic called the “Fae” which humans can weild through thought or unintended thought. Unfortunately, humanity’s nightmares and passions manifest themselves due to this process. It’s got some interesting fights.
She also has a *Coldfire Trilogy* series with overpowered mages and traditional knights, with strange enemy creatures.
For mages you may also like *The Videssos Cycle* by Harry Turtledove, featuring a roman legion that has been isekai’d into a world with a magical Byzantine-Empire equivalent.
Finally, check out the *Dreamblood Series* which takes place in a medeival India-like setting with epic fantasy magician elements and where people enter the actual afterlife casually while dreaming, and where nightmares are actually epidemics that kill.
