Hi guys,
I’m mid-way into Black Swan and I just feel like every read is so bored and incomprehensible. I was mildly interested to learn about the 80s but the stories kept dragging into Eve’s unenthusiastic dating life and her nonchalant attitude towards everything. Very descriptive sex scenes were dragged for many pages and her interactions with different characters in the books seemed to have little meanings. Most of the time, it was about her giving exhausting monologue about people’s appearance, and their turbulent family relationships. It was such a shame because I saw so many good reviews about the book, and I don’t understand the hype. Every reviews said how magical, brilliant, extraordinary this book is. It looked like Eve was just taking note of her hallucinations while she was high.

I liked sex and rage, eves Hollywood, and the other collection of short stories (fast company?). Her non fiction is worth picking up.
80s eve was going through a lot of drugs and I feel her writing takes a dip here
And here I was getting excited thinking the Aranofsky film was adapted from this.
I could have kept reading these stories forever…I think I’ll have to track down her earlier books now.
i read this 2 years ago and i couldn’t get into it at all. it was lackluster at best. but i’m still interested in trying her other books
A book in a similar vein/setting is Lithium for Medea by Kate Braverman.
