I’m going away to America solo for three weeks, and while I want to get out and explore, I’ll also be having lots of time in my B&B alone. I’m looking for a book that I will get totally lost in, filled with an exciting plot and adventure. A book that when you put it down, you’re basically dying to pick it back up again due to just wanting to get back into that world and story. A book where you’d happily spend a month, or more, staying in that same world.

I’ve read a lot of russian lit recently which is quite philosophy heavy (which I love) but for my trip I’m really just looking for something to get totally lost in plot and adventure wise.

I loved Kafka On The Shore. It can be really weird sometimes but I often think back to it when I think of books that really transported me to another world

If you like Fantasy: Either The Hobbit for a short read, or the Lord of the Rings trilogy for a longer one. Be forewarned, a lot of people struggle with the writing style in LotR, as it can be slow at times (a lot of scenery description), but if I could run away to any book world, this would be it. Middle Earth is my home, and if you do like it, there’s a million other books on the history of the world to get sucked into. The Silmarillion is one of my comfort books.

If you like Action Movies: The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie (yeah, the actor who played House). An action-hero-but-relatable type guy goes undercover with a mercenary/terrorist group, I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil the twists or action. It’s the kind of book you can read over and over.

If you like Sci-Fi or Humor: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. Get the whole series, not just the one book, you can it in box sets or one big book. It’s fun, you never know what will happen next, and it’s absolutely hilarious. Definitely stands up to re-reads.
