Looking for your favorite books with a protagonist who is kind of a bad guy, or just very misunderstood, but is actually kind of a softie who means well. I just read Murderbot diaries and I think the best thing about it is that the protagonist is kind of an asshole but still forms these strong and loyal bonds/relationships/friendships with others.
The protagonist can be something like a misunderstood demon, vampire, witch, etc. or a criminal/robin hood type or a hired gun/mercenary/contract killer (just a few examples). I like characters who are have a dark or jaded edge to them, but are not actually evil. Morally gray even shading toward being a bad person is ok too (i.e. I liked Monza in Best Served Cold) as long as they are sympathetic and not a protagonist that you are meant to hate. I want to root for them and watch them form unlikely bonds with other characters.
Prefer sci-fi, fantasy settings but anything is OK.
Bonus if there's a good audiobook.
Extra bonus if any LGTBQ+ rep.
