I read the Poppy War trilogy a while ago and I loved it, I thought it was amazing. Then I read Nevernight and that was pretty good too. But now I haven't been able too find anything else that dark/gritty that wasn't written by Mark Lawrence or Joe Abercrombie (I haven't been able to really get into their writting styles yet, despite trying A LOT).
Basically this is it. I don't enjoy distopian stuff very much but I can read it if the book is good, and I like witty prose but it's not that important.
What I really liked about the Poppy War (prob. my best book yet. Clearly top five) was the focus on the relationships between Rin, Nezha and Kitay, but not in a YA, pink-lighted, candy-coated way.
