Dark and chilling thriller novels?

Anybody have any suggestions for a really good thriller book? Preferably one that has come out in the last few years.

I'm really into books with dark and chilling themes. Ones that leave you in suspense and have twists and turns. Not nessesarily a detective, police, or mystery based novel but rather just a good suspenseful book that keeps you thirsty for more. I'm also looking for one with great character development and with settings that are either in rural areas or big cities. I hope that's not too specific!
