Hello! I'm searching for books that focus on theme of having some sort of innate, dark desire, that, if accepted, would have negative consequences (emotionally, morally, in general). A good example would be "Firestarter" by Stephen King, where a young girl named Charlie has a power of pyrokinesis. At first she is very scared to use it, but she has to due to the circumances, and in a way, she enjoys it – even it's just a small part of her that does. It could also be something corresponding to the very nature of the person, like them being a vampire/ghoul/demon and eventually accepting it.
Preferences:
– Female main character (optional).
– The "evil" doesn't have to be magical in nature, but I want there to be something to gain – not just someone tormenting themselves or others with no merit, I want it to thrill them in some way.
– No sexual violence as a main theme.
– Characters don't have to have moral high ground, but I want psychological nuance netherless.
